We started carrying a new form of pine last year by the name of Pinus sylvestris ‘Green Penguin’. It’s very dwarf with a dense and upright habit. Growing just 3-5″ per year it is suitable for using as an upright accent in smaller gardens or foundation plantings. Like most pines it is fairly deer and rabbit resistant. Scotch pine prefers well-drained soils but is adaptable to heavy soils as well, and is hardy to zone 3. For those who are having problems with winter burn on dwarf Alberta spruce, this could be a good substitute. We will have them again this year, and they will arrive near the start of May.
