A few weeks ago a read an interesting article on how to keep algae from taking over your birdbath. Of course before writing about it, I decided to try it.
Now, if your birdbath is like mine I can put clean water in one day and the next day the orange algae is already taking over. Copper is a natural fungicide and before 1982 pennies were made from copper. If 7-10 pennies are placed in an average size birdbath it with slow and reduce the algae growth in the birdbath.
And if I may say so it worked! It did slow down the orange appearance quite a bit, to where I could add water daily without scrubbing daily. Now I clean it once a week. There is some residue of course but not like before. Give it a try and let me know what you think.
